In the photo above, the homeowners have pushed the fridge back at least two inches into the wall. A contractor can do this fairly easily when your kitchen is being remodelled provided there are no pipes etc running down the back wall. This is a solution many people I know have used. A counter depth fridge that looks like a built in.

Recessing the refrigerator is a common practice and a great solution if the space allows. In this home, however, there was not space (there is a hallway behind this wall). The cabinets are custom in this particular kitchen which allowed for some adjustment (notice the refrigerator end panels extend beyond the 24" depth of the base cabinet by just a few inches). I always recommend working with professionals to develop a design that addresses the unique challenges of each project.

I'm so glad the photos provide inspiration for your project. Unfortunately, I do not have any additional photos that show the detail of the wainscoting. Good luck to all!

These cabinets were custom built and have a custom paint finish, so no manufacturer brand is available. The soft white is beautiful!

Benjamin Moore White Dove is a beautiful soft white that is gorgeous on ceilings, baseboards & crown molding.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the specific details of the tile backsplash. I would recommend working with a quality tile showroom in your local area to achieve a similar look.

I'm sorry I no longer have the exact dimensions of this particular kitchen, however, the ideal clearance is 42"-48". The minimum is 36". Consulting a professional kitchen designer is always a good idea. I hope that helps....good luck!

What Houzz contributors are saying:

1. Counter-Depth RefrigeratorsWhat it is: Counter depth means the body of the unit is as deep as the countertop — but the doors extend past that due to the hinges. Counter-depth units are typically 32 to 36 inches wide, 24 to 26 inches deep (not including the door) and 68 to 71 inches tall. If you’re looking for a true built-in, a counter-depth refrigerator won’t cut it, but the price tag might: It’s often thousands of dollars less than a true built-in refrigerator. Variations: This style refrigerator comes in many forms. French doors are very popular now, and because the side-by-side doors are half as wide as one door, they’re great for kitchens with tight clearances. Side-by-side and regular old bottom-freezer options also can be found. Like all the refrigerator types in this ideabook, they’re available in a range of finishes besides stainless steel. When to use: This is a good choice if you’re looking for something that looks sleek and more built in than a standard-depth fridge, that has more clearance around the door and that costs less than a true built-in refrigerator.
