Contemporary Ranch style HomeContemporary Exterior, San Francisco

My client came to me after staying in an upscale Hotel in the Napa valley and had an idea to change her 1960's ranch into a contemporary style ranch home. The idea was to get rid of the stucco exterior, add several dormers that brought style and light as well as change the roof to a standing seam metal roof. The entire house had metamorphisized into a whole new home and brings together a very clean lined look.

The exterior siding is a standard Batt and Board Siding using and exterior grade plywood with 1X3 vertical trim boards spaced evenly. Thank you for the comment

I would also like this information. Our roof will be replaced in 2-3 weeks and this photo was our inspiration. I'm using a dark charcoal, but this seems to have a touch of blue to it. What is the seam height? Do you recall if the metal between the seams was smooth or slightly ridged? Thank you!

I would do your homework well before you embark on a standing seam metal roof.

- I choose a 1 inch seam vs. 1.5. The larger seams can create a shadow.

- my seam was crimped and bent over at a 90 degree angle before I realized i would of preferred to have it straight up. My roofer told me that the angle was standard and that a straight seam was harder on the roof some how. I am not sure I trust him on that one....

- color is also very important. You need to consider the variations from shading or different times of day.

- lastly, make sure your roof is level as sag's will show up more prominently.

Wendy the pitch of the roof is a 5:12 pitch not far off from yours should be just fine. Good luck on your venture.
