Be a little careful what kind of stones you put in a firepit. Some explode when heated, sending small sharp fragments flying.

I concur with Anne, your local fireplace expert should be able to help. Find one at the National Fireplace Institute website: nficertified.org.

Do you remember how much space you have between the firepit and seating? and what height is the fire pit.

What is the name of wood used for the deck? And what material is the fireplace?

If it's propane you need vents at the bottom because propane is heavier than air. If natural gas, there should already be holes in the pan for drainage so no need to do anything.
