    That's a good question. I would ask your local tile professional what the pros and cons of each type of tile is. My expertise is in cabinetry and cabinetry design. I did how ever find this resource on WikiHow.com that may help answer some of your questions. I hope this helps.

- It looks like you have more than 18 inches between the counter and upper cabinets? If so, how many inches? More space allows for more room to fold clothes. I like this...and the tiny tiles on the backsplash really enhances the space. Perhaps this is just an illusion.......? Great room!

    That backsplash is a metal blend. They're the same size as the cream colored tiles :)
