Great info about heights! What about the depth of the ceiling tray? typically about 6" from the lip of the drywall?

We moked tbis up during the framing phase and experimented with the depth of shelf and height of vertical leg to hide the lamp. In our case we used fluorescent lamps, should be easier with LED's.

Thanks, and appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. Having trouble with the vertical leg light channel Did you use plywood on the bottom and vertical leg to create the light channel and then attach the drywall?

It's a matter of opinion, I think yes.
  • mike1776

I used cove lighting for my recent office project. I love the indirect lighting look and it more than adequately lights up my office. So my opinion is yes it will be more than adequate. Since my job was done during a remodel I used aluminum cove lighting from Green Oxen and it was a straightforward install. Good Luck.

There is a plastic "l" at the bottom and the drywall mud is finished after the floor is in place, then the strip is pulled off.

We've only scratched the surface of what can be done with drywall. Although drywall is easier to install than plaster, it takes time to master the skill. Look for opportunities to practice, like in a garage, before you try your skills on the living room.Have fun, wear a mask when you sand, and rock on!More: The Power of Plywood

Change it up. "I decided to lean an oversized colorful painting against the wall for two reasons," explains Mark English of Mark English Architects. "The first being that I wanted a feeling of changeability in the room, the idea that the art could move around. Secondly, I wanted the painting to seem more like a furnishing than wall art."

Evenly distributed lighting; lighting is directed downward instead of upward; more modern design, not sure of this color
