Certainly not every entry has to meet every function on our list — merely the ones required by the occupants and perhaps frequent visitors. In this home, an armoire provides a place to hang garments and a drawer for storing items, next to a slipcovered chair for sitting. Slipping a couple of baskets under the armoire would add storage for shoes and other items.

Entry. Of course, antique armoires aren’t all French and fancy. I’ve never seen one built atop a bench like this, but what a great idea. This primitive painted and distressed example graces an entry hall, where it offers a multitude of storage options. The upper part might contain coats, scarves and umbrellas; the drawer could provide a place for car keys, flashlights and even shoes; and several pairs of Wellies would look perfect lined up underneath.

6. Enhance the look of age. Hang one large antique tool with a lot of space around it. In this patina-style room, the antique pitchfork stands out against the ivory walls, and the wood plays off the aged wood on the armoire.

HA ... another photo with warm wood and off white walls. Here's their description: "Certainly not every entry has to meet every function on our list — merely the ones required by the occupants and perhaps frequent visitors. We might need to go to estate sales and second hand stores.
