Eclectic Mid-Century - Rancho MirageBeach Style Family Room, Los Angeles
Built on Frank Sinatra’s estate, this custom home was designed to be a fun and relaxing weekend retreat for our clients who live full time in Orange County. As a second home and playing up the mid-century vibe ubiquitous in the desert, we departed from our clients’ more traditional style to create a modern and unique space with the feel of a boutique hotel. Classic mid-century materials were used for the architectural elements and hard surfaces of the home such as walnut flooring and cabinetry, terrazzo stone and straight set brick walls, while the furnishings are a more eclectic take on modern style. We paid homage to “Old Blue Eyes” by hanging a 6’ tall image of his mug shot in the entry.
What Houzz contributors are saying:
The living area is designed for comfort. Stiles says her main challenge was the fairly tight budget, so she bought most of the furnishings from reasonably priced larger retailers, such as West Elm, Anthropologie, JCPenney, One Kings Lane and Room & Board.“The challenge was to make it special and not look like we sourced from big, mainstream retailers. I did this through the use of interesting art and accessories and affordable custom items such as throw pillows,” she says.Paint: White Dove by Benjamin Moore; sectional: Room & Board; ottoman: designed by Brittany Stiles, custom built and covered in Kravet fabric; hanging chair: Serena & Lily; chairs: JCPenney; table lamps: School House Electric and Arteriors; art on wall: variety of sources, including Wendover Art Group, One Kings Lane and Brittany Stiles
