The figures of cast members from each land at Disneyland are by Kevin Kidney and Jody Daily. The colorful monsters are Beastlies by Leslie Levings. The “Rumba Pencils” animation cell was drawn by my dad for the Sesame Street short he directed in 1974. (That’s him in the photo on the shelf below with the half-shriveled Mickey balloon!) This sitting room was designed to reduce stress and support healing for families and their children with critical illnesses. We used neutral textures, bright blues and aquas, and muted reds to create a sense of home, of safety, and of hope. We referenced water, animals, and nature - universal themes. The star of the room is the Black Crow Studios custom mural watercolor wallpaper. The furniture and fabrics are all durable and comfortable, and include: custom Kravet pierced sheer drapery, Kravet chrome lounge chair and narrow coffee table, custom curved back sofa, a J.D. Staron wool loop rug, floor lamp and desk lamp from Circa Lighting, floral photography art by Kari Herer, kids table and raffia console from Serena & Lily, and beautiful Italian desk from Modern Resale. We are honored that Melinda Mandell Interior Design was selected to participate in “Where Hope Has a Home” at the Stanford Ronald McDonald House. We believe in creating safe, nurturing, and healing spaces for all families!

My client wanted some wall units built in so she could display some art pottery that she collects. Her husband plays many musical instruments. Instead of the "same ole, same ole" why not create art with the build in to house the art displayed? The beautiful guitar was trimmed with abalone and turquoise and was beautiful and I thought it should be seen and admired so I created a guitar shaped niche with bookmatched grain surround and spotlight. The shelves were various sizes and shapes to accomodate a variety of artifacts. A couple of feature shapes were also lit.

This is a small living room right off the entry to a larger home. The clients wanted this space to set the tone for the home as one that is sophisticated and fun. The simple clean lines of the sectional sofa allow the other pieces in the room to play starring roles. We blended the styles of an antique chair, a classic mid-century table and several other quirky pieces to make a cohesive design statement. Kaskel Photo

The Martinique banana leaf wallpaper has been a Holy Grail item for me ever since I spotted it in the coffee shop of the historic Ambassador Hotel, which I got to tour right before it was torn down.
