    Personally, I'd only mix sofas in separate seating areas within a very large room - and they both would have to relate to one another as well as the overall decor....

    ...but for your typical living room - I wouldn't recommend it.

    Although I agree with bepsf, I think that it is perfectly acceptable to mix and match sofas in one seating area. Like all things, there is a very fine line between perfection and disaster. Here are a few examples of mixed sofas that I think are quite successful.

    The space is minimal and paired down, and if you're lucky enough to have a large room the room won't seem overcrowded.
