This 1956 John Calder Mackay home had been poorly renovated in years past. We kept the 1400 sqft footprint of the home, but re-oriented and re-imagined the bland white kitchen to a midcentury olive green kitchen that opened up the sight lines to the wall of glass facing the rear yard. We chose materials that felt authentic and appropriate for the house: handmade glazed ceramics, bricks inspired by the California coast, natural white oaks heavy in grain, and honed marbles in complementary hues to the earth tones we peppered throughout the hard and soft finishes. This project was featured in the Wall Street Journal in April 2022.

With expansive fields and beautiful farmland surrounding it, this historic farmhouse celebrates these views with floor-to-ceiling windows from the kitchen and sitting area. Originally constructed in the late 1700’s, the main house is connected to the barn by a new addition, housing a master bedroom suite and new two-car garage with carriage doors. We kept and restored all of the home’s existing historic single-pane windows, which complement its historic character. On the exterior, a combination of shingles and clapboard siding were continued from the barn and through the new addition.

Coastal-cottage kitchen centers on a white-painted brick fireplace with an arched firebox and chunky oak mantel displaying lemons, a ceramic globe, and a frame-style TV cycling seascape art. Fan-shaped rattan pendants with globe bulbs float above a honed marble-look quartzite island, where a wooden bowl brims with citrus and avocados beside a striped cutting board. Curved-back wood stools tuck beneath the island, while soft-sage inset cabinetry frames a glassware bar accented by an iridescent aqua mosaic. Exposed oak ceiling beams and garden views reinforce the light, breezy ambiance.

The existing kitchen in this Lake Oswego, Ore. home was large, but the space was poorly planned. The aspects of the working triangle were cramped into a small area, crating poor work flow and an uninviting appeal for guests. The cooktop was located in too small of an island and located too close to the refrigerator.

Custom shaker cabinets. Sage green cabinets with glass upper cabinets and white cabinets for the large kitchen island. Champagne bronze cabinet hardware and kitchen faucet. Custom range hood with wood trim. Large pendents and exposed wood beams. Exposed wood beams are Florida pine.

Traditional meets modern in this charming two story tudor home. A spacious floor plan with an emphasis on natural light allows for incredible views from inside the home.

The most elegant, cozy, quaint, french country kitchen in the heart of Roland Park. Simple shaker-style white cabinets decorated with a mix of lacquer gold latches, knobs, and ring pulls. Custom french-cafe-inspired hood with an accent of calacattta marble 3x6 subway tile. A center piece of the white Nostalgie Series 36 Inch Freestanding Dual Fuel Range with Natural Gas and 5 Sealed Brass Burners to pull all the gold accents together. Small custom-built island wrapped with bead board and topped with a honed Calacatta Vagli marble with ogee edges. Black ocean honed granite throughout kitchen to bring it durability, function, and contrast!

After a not-so-great experience with a previous contractor, this homeowner came to Kraft Custom Construction in search of a better outcome. Not only was she wanting a more functional kitchen to enjoy cooking in, she also sought out a team with a clear process and great communication.
Two elements of the original floorplan shaped the design of the new kitchen: a protruding pantry that blocked the flow from the front door into the main living space, and two large columns in the middle of the living room.
Using a refined French-Country design aesthetic, we completed structural modifications to reframe the pantry, and integrated a new custom buffet cabinet to tie in the old columns with new wood ceiling beams. Other design solutions include more usable countertop space, a recessed spice cabinet, numerous drawer organizers, and updated appliances and finishes all around.
This bright new kitchen is both comfortable yet elegant, and the perfect place to cook for the family or entertain a group of guests.
