I appreciate that this kitchen does not have an island. I know, I know, that's what "everybody" puts in their kitchen, but this makes me want to sit down at the table and chat with the cook while my grandkids run their cars along that beautiful floor. (I know, they might scratch it. I have a "hand-sculpted" hickory kitchen floor and LOVE it...and the grandkids do things that will scratch it up eventually.)

Is that the hood? Can you send me a number and all the info I need for this hood, backsplash, and shelf? THANK YOU!!!!! Nanette (Nanettesemail@aol.com)

    2 sinks?

    Rauser Design
Yes. The client wanted to have two work areas since many large meals are prepared on the farm. One sink area is used mostly for food prep while the other is used mostly for cleaning.

Splurge: Timeless AppliancesIf you’re going to splurge in your farmhouse kitchen, one of the best places to do so is on the oven and other large appliances. If you choose too many typical contemporary models, they may seriously interrupt the timeless look.A generously sized and traditional-looking stove like this one suits such a space beautifully.

In an uncommon twist, the front door of the house opens into the expansive kitchen. Rauser landed on this concept after researching dozens of historic farmhouses that embody this design, which lets farmers carry their vegetables directly to the kitchen to wash and cook them. All the floors, handrails and stair treads are hundred-year-old reclaimed loblolly pine.

This kitchen by Rauser Design opens right up to the outdoors through a red door that is more glass than wood. It is painted with Redwing by Sherwin-Williams.
