    I painted the drywall on the lower part of wall the same color as the trim. Then I added rail on top and 2" wide batten strips every 16". You can get the strips at your local hardware box store.

    Hi and thanks for your question, sorry for the delay in responding. In some places in the house yes we do use 4'x8' patterned plywood sheets, but here we used 3/4" thick individual boards, typically usually used for wainscoting. Thanks for your question.
