Do you know it grow fast, invasive, blooms all summer?
  • laurarailton

It grows quickly once established. It prefers full sun, but will tolerate partial shade. It blooms all summer in mild climates. Not invasive (not damaging), but does grow quickly and can get leggy/scraggly if not pruned and/or trained properly.

Here comes the fireplace nerd with an addendum/clarification:

The clearance requirements apply only to gas firepits, as shown above, not wood burning.

Wood burning firepits must be used with a spark screen or spark arrestor and are not for use under combustible construction, according to NFPA.

Also, in multi-family construction (townhouses, apartments, condos), ANY open flame must be at least ten feet from combustible construction.

    Good to know!~ Thanks.

Thanks very much for the quick reply! Patio/pergola/firepit is lovely!

I hope you don't mind but I have two questions about the pergola (I promiseI won't ask any more questions!). Are the pergola rafters wood or composite or metal? Did you allow greater spacing between the rafters to allow the heat to escape easily? Thank you!!!!

No- the yard area is very limited, so the orientation was determined by the space we had to work with. Luckily, our climate here in San Diego is very mild, so solar orientation is not as critical as other areas may be. If you desired more shade, you could always go over the top beams with smaller slats in the other direction that would provide much more shade cover.

This shade structure was custom built-- and not purchased as a pre-manufactured product. I imagine that you could have something similar custom built to your specifications. Hopefully, that helps. Good luck!
