French Country Kitchen

Eclectic Kitchen, Boston

Our clients wanted a kitchen that had all the modern conveniences, but felt as if it had been plucked from a centuries-old home. We obliged by gutting their existing kitchen and designing every detail for them, including all the architectural moldings and cabinetry, and importing English tole tiles for their custom backsplash. This eat-in kitchen features both a breakfast nook dining table as well as the kitchen island with counter-height seating for two. A custom designed wood hutch frames this cozy seating arrangement. WKD’s design brief for this home was to infuse graceful grandeur for entertaining into this former 1907 stable and carriage house. One would imagine that the carriage house held, at least to some degree, historic and beautiful architectural details. However, this was not the case. Everything – architectural moldings, flooring, hardware, etc. - were designed and fabricated to the designer’s specifications. The home features a stunning French-style salon, elaborate adjacent dining room, a handsome paneled library, a Tuscan inspired gourmet kitchen and dining area, a wet bar, a beautifully landscaped outdoor terrace, and a stunning master bath. The project has received numerous regional and national awards and has been published several times.
