The kitchen is designed for functionality with a 48” Subzero refrigerator and Wolf range. Add in the marble countertops and industrial pendants over the large island and you have a stunning area.

The Interior Edge
I wanted this small space (8' x 8') to feel spa like, warm and cozy yet we were not allowed to change the location of any plumbing. I stole space from the front hall closet (this left a small space inset in the foyer wall for the silver leaf niche, in another picture) to put the angled sink counter. The counter is 3/4" creme mars fils marble with an ogee edge that has a curved front to soften the feel. The undermount sink is a Kohler Caxton (small). The faucets are polished nickel (also by Kohler, Finial style). The linen white (by Benjamin Moore) built-in cabinet has raised panel doors and rose shaped handles in pewter color. The tub walls are 4" x 4" tumbled marble boticcino tiles. The perimeter has a Waterworks brand ceramic molding tile that coordinates with the inset decorative frieze (also by Waterworks). I really like the tumbled soft finish with the juxtaposition of the shiny ceramic accent tile finish. In the mirror you can see we put 3 applied molding panels above the toilet to allow access to the mechanicals. In the center of the top panel is a wall sconce. This is one of the three forms of lighting. There are also overhead downlights and a makeup light at the sink area. All are on dimmers, of course:-)

This lovely home sits in one of the most pristine and preserved places in the country - Palmetto Bluff, in Bluffton, SC. The natural beauty and richness of this area create an exceptional place to call home or to visit. The house lies along the river and fits in perfectly with its surroundings.

Bradford Design LLC
This is the most elegant and formal kitchen Bradford Design has created to date. Yet only a few steps through a paneled-finished interior refrigerator cabinet one will find a less formal, complimentary second kitchen with features such as “chicken wire” cabinet door fronts on furniture-like cabinetry. The kitchen has a custom Bradford Design range hood, an island designed to look like it is supported by furniture legs, and an especially large and dramatic wall built-in. All of the cabinetry - on each wall in both kitchens - were designed totally symmetrical and without a seam between cabinets on the same plane. Integrating the cabinetry crown molding with the architect’s integrate room crown was another design challenge that defines this room. A Bradford Design master vanity continues the “all white” theme throughout this new French home on the water.

Dura Supreme Cabinetry
Traditional cherry hardwoods look rich and elegant framing a fireplace, especially when the styling and finish complement the cabinetry of the rest of the home. For this mantel, “Transitional” Styling was selected for the refined cove moldings used to create the mantel shelf. Decorative panels selected for the columns, blend perfectly with the cabinetry door style in the kitchen.

The front Entry was relocated to the central space in the house, repurposing the existing Dining Room as a Foyer. This allowed the Family Room to become its own space.
The Entry Courtyard was designed by the architects as an asymmetrical courtyard, stepping away from the house in a series of rectangular forms. This created a pleasant interplay with the landscape, provided a setting for sculpture, and serve to center the approach from the circular driveway to the offset front Entry.
New York Bluestone was set in a random rectangular flagging pattern, to relate to the rectangular massing of the house architecturally. New York State Bluestone was selected for its multi-colorations, to complement the hand-moulded brick on the house.
The original Nassau Red brick was replaced with Glen Gery Trevanian hand moulded brick, because Nassau Red, in addition to being rather unattractive, is also unavailable. The new materiality, incorporating hand-moulded brick with grape vine joints, and blending in with the natural stone at the chimney, adds a richer, softer appearance in this naturally wooded setting.
The new masonry chimney on the end of the Family Room played an important part of the street-view architectural presence. It was surfaced primarily in natural stone, with the brick soldier course carrying across from the frieze details, and was capped with a Superior Clay Mathis Flue Cap in a Salt Glaze. A double soldier course of brick tops the tapered stone chimney.
Raised panels were detailed below the new windows, and a substantial frieze board, underscored by a brick soldier course, lends additional weight to the roof, emphasizing the horizontal lines.
The project team: Glen Grayson, AIA managing partner, Michael Vandrei, project architect; Oakwood Construction Corp., Bob Thornton. The renovation and expansion project was completed in 2006 on a rolling wooded site in Muttontown, NY.
