Trendy open concept dark wood floor family room photo in Dallas with brown walls, a standard fireplace and a wall-mounted tv

Frisco EuropeanContemporary Family Room, Dallas

Building this family room was a really fun project. The featured wall is covered in shimmery bronze wallpaper that surrounds a fireplace highlighted with Pineapple Onyx tile. The Onyx tiles are back lit with LED strip lighting. Above the fireplace are an LED television and a grouping of decorative deer heads painted white with black antlers. Flanking the deer are decorative panels painted in a neutral accent color. The flooring is hand-scraped oak leading to a wall of doors and windows overlooking the back yard. It was not a part of the construction project. The homeowner owns it, and I don't know where it came from.

Can you tell me where te decorative panels are from? Thanks!

The decorative panels on the wall were custom built for this project. They are made from medium density fiberboard that has been cut on a CNC router. You can create any pattern that you like (using a vector based software package like a CAD system) and feed that information into a CNC router to produce the product. Any local fabricator that has a CNC router in their shop can produce a product like this.

Or...Go to modaindustria.com,they make this type of panel out of lightweight metal that has been lazer cut. Lots of different period styles and colors choices. Also they'll will do custom work for you.

The mantel and surround was fabricated from 12" x 12" pieces of Pineapple Onyx. The Onyx was attached to a steel frame made from 1" x 1" angle stock. The top row of Onyx tiles, which form the horizontal surface of the mantel, is removable. We installed a framework of LED strip (tape) lights inside the surround. We also added 2 LED puck lights at the top corners, pointing up.

The fireplace is a direct-vent manufactured firebox from Lennox Hearth Products. The surround is made from 12"x12" Pineapple Onyx attached to a 1"x1" steel frame.
  • melindabair
Hi - this looks amazing. Can you say how you attached the onyx tiles to the steel frame? Thanks!

Several suppliers have this deer head. Just search for "resin deer head" and you can find a bunch of them. This one is about 22" high.
