After many years of careful consideration and planning, these clients came to us with the goal of restoring this home’s original Victorian charm while also increasing its livability and efficiency. From preserving the original built-in cabinetry and fir flooring, to adding a new dormer for the contemporary master bathroom, careful measures were taken to strike this balance between historic preservation and modern upgrading. Behind the home’s new exterior claddings, meticulously designed to preserve its Victorian aesthetic, the shell was air sealed and fitted with a vented rainscreen to increase energy efficiency and durability. With careful attention paid to the relationship between natural light and finished surfaces, the once dark kitchen was re-imagined into a cheerful space that welcomes morning conversation shared over pots of coffee. Every inch of this historical home was thoughtfully considered, prompting countless shared discussions between the home owners and ourselves. This Wedgewood stove is considered the Queen of the line. They started production in the late 1940's and this one is from about 1951. It has 4 burners, a large gas griddle, two ovens, and two broilers, as well as a collapsible shelf to hold your vintage salt & pepper collection. Custom hood surround made of drywall and oak moulding is designed to hold a piece of artwork, which can be swapped out for a change. This vintage oil still life of fruit looks perfect in a kitchen! Cabinet glass with chicken wire inset adds another vintage touch: from Olde Good Things in Downtown LA.

This Award-winning kitchen proves vintage doesn't have to look old and tired. This previously dark kitchen was updated with white, gold, and wood in the historic district of Monte Vista. The challenge is making a new kitchen look and feel like it belongs in a charming older home. The highlight and starting point is the original hex tile flooring in white and gold. It was in excellent condition and merely needed a good cleaning. The addition of white calacatta marble, white subway tile, walnut wood counters, brass and gold accents keep the charm intact. Cabinet panels mimic original door panels found in other areas of the home. Custom coffee storage is a modern bonus! Sub-Zero Refrig, Rohl sink.

Opening the stair well walls with amazing cable railing allowed the natural light to pour into the entire main living area! To add height, cabinets along with gorgeous picket styled tile was taken to the ceiling. The gray stained island on casters not only breaks up the white and natural wood but also adds functionality for prep space.
