Please note: Building over shores like this degrades a waterway and is forbidden where Conservation laws are robust, Banks belong to all living things, not just rich people drawn to flat lifeless landscapes.

FYI ,This house and all the others seen in the photo are built on an artificial lagoon that was constructed in the 1950s. This decking was in existence and we just resurfaced it. This sort of thing can no longer be built in California, and as such serves as a reminder that we do need to be very mindful of the environment.

This deck hovers just above the lagoon's surface. With no railing to block the view, it lets you feel the full expansiveness of the setting.

The back of the home is very open to the water, and the client makes good use of this with beautiful deck. While designing the interior, Hutton found that the lighting and the space was very particular in the home — with some rooms having an enormous amount of natural light, and other rooms having hardly any at all — and had to be extremely careful about how each room was planned spatially.
