Is this a rug or carpet? Could you tell me about it? Thank you!

This is a very large area rug. It is handwoven in Tibet in a simple pattern of lines of a number of different colors running across the rug. It adds some nice even visual texture, and a warm color to the floor

The fabric is from Rose Tarlow Melrose House. It is lightly printed in a faded sort of way.

The sofa is a custom heirloom sofa from Jonas Upholstery in NYC. They are made in the old-school method - entirely handmade at a cost of more than $1,200 per foot without fabric, and as they only work with the Design Trade - so it also does not include the fees to a designer. They are exquisitely made.

This beautiful abstract piece gives this living room a fresh perspective. It contrasts the traditional elements for a perfect transitional blend. Notice that all the pattern is provided by the art, while the palette is repeated in the textiles.

More mixing of metallic and flat golds. It gives a room a very rich, Brahmin feel. There's nothing quite as sumptuous as gold velvet.

I know I rag on about being too matchy-matchy, but there are exceptions to my (personal) no-matching rule. Bold artwork doesn't always have to be boldly presented. In this expertly-composed room, the abstract painting blends in with the monochromatic warm tones of the wall, drapery, sofa and rug.

Frame on the wall gives it a traditional look, the window curtains and furniture.
