Because the sunniest place to grow vegetables is in the front yard, custom Cor-ten steel planters were designed as an attractive sculptural element, their graceful curves complementing the organic flow of the landscape. Informal gravel provides stable footing to walk and work, while remaining permeable to rain. Dwarf citrus grow in pots, and foundation plantings of Ribes sanguineum and Phormium 'Guardsman', and Ficus pumila vine anchor the home. Photo © Jude Parkinson-Morgan.

Design ideas for a mediterranean partial sun gravel landscaping in Los Angeles.

This is a California xeriscape succulent garden. Clients wanted color and texture with drought-resistant plant materials. They enjoy garden sculptures, so we included a Buddha and a Roman bust planted with succulents. The previous owners of the property left behind some old San Francisco cobblestones, which we incorporated into the new design, using them as garden steps.
We built low, raised beds out of stone, also existing on the property, and used containers along steps and against existing concrete walls to soften the hard surfaces.

NCL partnered with Pat Brodie Landscape Design to create a modern Mediterranean landscape that references both classic Santa Barbara mission style–custom tile and iron work–and the American Riviera–blue and white color scheme and large, lounge-worthy, pergola-covered stone patios.

Landscaping the town of Harmony was a blessing and a delight. We incorporated as many of the town's original ingredients and character as possible to combine with hardy succulents and Mediterraneans for a rustic, elegant feel.

The removal of the dense and overgrown shrubs provides more outdoor living space for dining and entertaining for the homeowners' enjoyment. And now with site-appropriate plants and no lawn there is less maintenance and a lower water bill. Full color Blue stone and small mexican pebbles replace the lawn and pathways resulting in an updated and contemporary transformation. A variety of low-water plants including succulents offer year-round appeal and interest throughout the seasons. Photos and Design © Eileen Kelly, Dig Your Garden Landscape Design

Once the lawn was removed, we were able to bring in mounds of new soil punctuated by gravel pathways leading to benches for visiting and viewing. In the background are the two benches that face each other along the approach to the front door..
