What Houzz contributors are saying:
Uplights can be placed on the floor, on shelves or, better still, recessed into the floor. Recessed uplights are generally more expensive than their ceiling cousins, because they have to withstand being walked on. But once installed they can elevate a space like little else.
Wall washing. Wall washing, also called grazing, is the use of multiple lights that have been designed with a fixture that diffuses the light with a wide cast to give a subtle glow evenly across a vertical surface. Wall washing is best for walls with interesting patterns or textures and is especially effective on walls with sculptural relief. Pictured here is a series of small recessed lights that are placed to cast diffused light upward onto a textured wall. The casting upward of diffused light brings out the sculptural relief of the wall.
Create a tranquil vibe. The texture of this garden wall creates a beautiful ripple effect for a soothing atmosphere. Floor-level uplights bring out the details for both a sophisticated look and a tranquil evening spot.
