What Houzz contributors are saying:
4. Single-load laundry basket. A large French market basket is perfect for collecting a single load’s worth of laundry. Use the sturdy leather handles to transport it to and from the laundry room. Keep several on hand to use for sorting loads. Stacked, they’ll take up less space when not in use.
8. Contact friends, family and neighbors who may be able to help. During a long renovation, there may be times when you need to lean on others — for a place to spend the night, do a load of laundry, take a shower or just get a little moral support. Give your close friends, family and perhaps neighbors too a heads-up that you are starting a remodeling project, and they will likely be happy to help if you need something down the road.
4. Launder and mend soft furnishings. Early spring is a good time to clean soft furnishings: slipcovers, pillow covers, curtains, shower curtains, duvet covers and area rugs. You can launder smaller items at home, but bring larger pieces to a pro. Take a close look at everything before it goes into the wash or out to the cleaners, and attach a colorful pin or clip to any holes or stains that need special attention.
3. Send in warranty cards. Those gorgeous new appliances or floors may come with a good warranty, but it’s only valid if you activate it — so be sure to send in those cards right away.4. Update your homeowner’s insurance policy. Anytime you make a major purchase for your home, you should also contact your insurance agent to update your policy.
