Oh my goodness!! I have these chairs. They are from my parents first dining room set. You are right they purchased them when they got married in the early 60's. Now how do I make my chairs look like these? That's the BIG question. Right now they are brown and not pretty. Please tell me how.

The pulls are from Home Depot, the circle appliques where part of the desk and we painted them with chrome spray paint.

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Becky Harris added this to Take Rooms on a Coastal Trip With Orange and Blue
DO add a seaside accessory here and there. A metallic coral object reminds us of the sea without going over the top.
Charmean Neithart Interiors added this to Treat Your Rooms to Pumpkin Pie Orange
Pumpkin feels right at home in an eclectic mix. Be daring with pumpkin paint. It goes with every color, so have fun. Try Pumpkin Cream 2168-20 by Benjamin Moore for a similar shade to the one on this desk.

Mix styles. For an eclectic look that is definitely edgy, mix styles and bold color. Here, a traditional portrait that feels formal and French is mixed with a punchy orange desk and whimsical painted chair. This mix isn't really correlated; it's just interesting together. Don't be afraid to contrast styles.
Vanessa Brunner added this to Orange for Fun — and Yes, Versatility — Around the House
Why Is There an Aversion to Orange?Orange tends to get an instant negative reaction — more so than other colors. "Orange has the ghoulish habit of becoming garish without too much effort," says New York color consultant Debra Kling. Generally, orange elicits a mental image of a bright, gaudy hue. It can get too pink or too yellow very quickly. Plus, its reputation as a Halloween color makes it hard for many to envision incorporating it into their home.
Fred Albert added this to Decorating 101: How Much Is This Going to Cost Me?
The fabric on that upholstered piece needn’t be fancy. “Don’t pick the most expensive fabric,” Juestel says, “because you can save money by buying fabric that feels good, is reasonable and durable.” Saving money doesn’t necessarily mean sacrificing quality, either. Instead of settling for a particleboard desk or cabinet, consider looking for a used wood one at a thrift store, antiques shop or flea market. “You can always get more in vintage,” Juestal says. The quality will be better, and you can paint it or refinish it, or send it out for restoration. And when you no longer want it, you can resell it — something you probably can’t do with that chipboard version. Browse desks
