Relaxed La Jolla Retreat This homeowner is a single dad with an elementary school-aged daughter. He recently purchased his one story home in the La Jolla hills and wanted a master bath retreat that was masculine but also soothing at the same time. His original space was three very closed off spaces including a vanity area, a walled off shower and toilet area, and a closet that was separated by mirrored sliding glass doors. Opening up the entire space into one large room, gave the homeowner a much bigger, more useable space to add to that sense of a soothing retreat. Additionally, three ackwardly placed windows became a design focal point as we placed the vanity mirrors in a ‘floating’ position above the sinks and over the windows. The backsplash, made of a copper quartzite- strip cladding surrounds that vanity to also give the ‘floating’ effect. The floor and walls are clad with a 12”x24” Jura Beige Honed Limestone and the counter top is a rustic quartz from Silestone. While the surface finishes are a bit rustic, the light and plumbing fixtures are more streamlined and contemporary. Together, they add to that soothing, masculine feel of the space. The overall result is this contemporary, yet rustic bathroom that reflects this homeowner’s contemporary taste and lifestyle.
