Where are you hiding the water valves?

They are behind the unit but there is a second set of valves up in the cupboard above for easy access to shut of for "vacation mode". We no longer do this and instead use Flood Stop valves. These sense water leaks and will shut off the valve automatically. It works if you are home or gone. Often leaks or floods occur while you are at home.

How wide are the cabinets above the washer and dryer and to their immediate left?

I don't have the drawings on hand any more, but If I know the ones you are referring to, would guess about 28"

You can build them either way. I believe these were full depth for storage of craft containers.

We have an in wall shutoff in the cabinet above. The typical shutoff is located at the connection behind the units

Sorry I missed your question! The drain for the washer is on the wall behind it as well as the supply water. We did install shut-off valves in the cabinet above however so they could be easily shut-off when not in use (vacations, etc) This is really not that difficult to install, we do the majority of our projects in this manner.

They are laminate. Wilsonart’s Citrine Topaz #4591. They also have a Gem-loc edge on them. I am sorry I do not have the exact product for the Gem-loc, but it was a close color match. http://www.loticorp.com/home_owners_products.html
This is a great look and very affordable. It also allows for inexpensive updating in the future.

I am sorry, The owner provided their own sink on this project so I don't have record of the make and model.

      4. Choose an Energy Star rated washer. When it's time to trade in your old washer, be sure to look for a new model with the Energy Star label — they use half the water and up to 30 percent less energy than standard washers.

Cabinets directly above washer & dryer. Not necessary for the pedestals.
