Kid's Beach RoomBeach Style Kids, Los Angeles

A mural of the ocean was hand painted with the horizon line at eye level for children. Roman shades have a valance made of grass skirts with a floral print bench below with storage for toys. A lava lamp and surfboard lamp added to the fun "beachy" theme of the room.

Start with a blue that you like. Use a white with lots of glaze and a rag and just wipe it on. Be kind of loose. You really can't do it mess it up.

Thank you. Choose some colors you like in latex interior semi gloss. Blend in a pie plate and paint away! It was great fun. I used a navy Sharpie for the horizon and made sure it was at my son's eye level. This gives a realistic perspective when looking out to sea!

I made these from grass skirts ordered from Oriental Trading Company. They are stapled to a wood valance for sturcture.

While you’re at it, go ahead and add a grass skirt as a valance.

        4. Beach bum. Having grown up in chilly Connecticut as an avid Jimmy Buffett fan, I’m a sucker for anything tropical. Naturally, this photo has found its way into my own renovation dreams. The tiki-hut valance graces a child’s room, but I’ll bet some adventurous and playful adults among us wouldn’t hesitate to use this whimsical treatment in a mudroom, bedroom, bar or covered porch — really anywhere a lighthearted vibe is desired.

Ocean-inspired colors, natural materials and a lava lamp add a little relaxation to this workspace area.
