Anything over a 6' island is plenty for a sink. Mine is just over 8' and works great. 18" trash pull out, 36" sink, 24" DW, 18" base cabinet.

I am remodeling my kitchen. I am planning to use Calacatta for the backsplash and the island with a cooktop and quatrz for the other countertops in the kitchen. The floor in the kitchen is french terra-cotta, What color white quartz would you recommend that would go with calacatta? I have looked at different whites from Compac and Caesarstone.
    Thank you. Ani D

I think it really depends on the space. This kitchen is fairly large and I felt that wood might be quite overwhelming. If you look at the other kitchens on my site www.Mhouseinc.com I tend to go for woods as I like the texture the wood grains create - but those are also much smaller spaces.
  • shelton143
Thank you for your response. You said you like the texture of wood grains. Are these cabinets a different material?

Cloud White reads a little creamier. Both are lovely. I have had both on custom kitchen cabinetry. Now our entire house is Dove White with a lot of Southern exposure and we love it.

PatienceCustom cabinets can take two months or more to construct, plus a week or more to install. Once you have made all your design and finish choices, you will have to wait. The installation process can be an exciting time, when you actually see the tangible shapes you painstakingly pored over fill your room. Don’t panic during this period. It seems like a long time, and worries can fester, but if you took the time to study this and the other cabinet stories in this series, and found an experienced designer and cabinetmaker to work with, you have done all you can.

Island Light Laney says kitchen islands topped with marble are usually the No. 1 place you will notice etching. “It’s in the center of the kitchen, and it catches the light because you don’t have a backsplash to guard the glare,” she says. In this image you can see how the display cabinets punctuate the room with light. Tip: When deciding on an island size, tape it off on the floor and experiment. "A great deal of time was spent debating the size and function of this island," Meisels says. "We taped off the floor several times, taking great care in measuring the distance from all of the appliances, walls, etcetera. I had the homeowner walk from imaginary fridge to stove to sink just to make sure the 11-foot-long island wouldn’t feel too overwhelming for her." The marble-topped island turned out just right. It has plenty of storage for garbage, recycling, food containers and cookbooks. It also contains a sink, dishwasher and microwave. Out of season kitchenware is stored on the stool side.
