- hoping you can help, we need to tell our contractor tomorrow what stain we want. They are trying to talk us out of staining the walnut as they say it ruins the character, I am trying to even out the sap wood (we have 1 grade but still want it to look more like your pictures) can you please share your flooring (poly, stain color, wax etc, what was used and how applied. Custom, transitional-style fabricated metal balusters. Excellent for the clean, classic lines of a bungalow.
The stair treads and trimwork have had a brown stain applied to them to balance out their color. This is a common treatment for walnut and it doesn't diminish the wonder of walnut one bit.
