What are the red plants in the pots?

The red plants in the pots are Imperata rubra (Japanese Blood Grass). In our climate, which is Cool Temperate in Australia, they die back in winter. They are very hardy during the summer and basically survive on rainwater.

Thank you, oceantasi, it does indeed catch the eye as do others spread around this garden. This particular one is an English Box, Buxus sempervirens. You can achieve a similar effect with several plants including Buxus microphylla var. japonica and Pittosporum 'Golf Ball'. There will be other plants which are suited to your area. When pruning into a ball, make certain to look at the plant from all directions until it's even.
