Living Room Becomes A Work SpaceTransitional Living Room, Portland
What Houzz contributors are saying:
A sofa and two chairs are already a common seating grouping around a fireplace (for cozy nights in), so why not add a dining table and start enjoying the warm fire a little earlier over dinner?Notice how this combination can feel elegant and charming but relaxed, like the perfect private supper club where you aren’t scared to put your elbows on the table.See more on living room layouts
Chimney sweep. This modern take on a traditional room has wallpaper only on the chimney breast. It immediately draws the eye to the contemporary sculpture there — a witty interpretation of the classic hunting trophy.
While I like the idea of getting rid of all that paper, I really love the idea of living a more mobile life. That means operating my business from any room in the house without leaving a trail of paper. And traveling would be a cinch, as I wouldn't have to worry about asking a friend to grab my mail or panic about the unopened bills piling up.
By papering only the chimney area the designer emphasizes the three-dimensionality of the room. It gives the whole room texture. And it removes any bit of Wild West that skull might have thought about bringing into the mix.
A cream shade inside this iron lantern softens the light and makes it very interior-friendly.
Bring in a captivating wall pattern. Create a unique focal point with a stencil design or wallpaper above a fireplace or behind a sofa.
The pattern above the fireplace was hand painted in the living room of my own home, and I liked the design so much I had it made into a stencil.
Add flexibility. Short on space? This furniture can be easily rearranged to create a dining room or a living room.
The table is centered, and the room looks like it's lived in without being cluttered.
