      1. Do something amazing with your best vacation photo of the year. Instead of letting those gorgeous shots languish in a drawer (or on your hard drive, more likely), have one supersized and framed or printed onto canvas.

Color is crucial to every room. By incorporating a large-scale photograph in this neutral space, the homeowner injected a nice jolt of color that was then carried throughout the room.See the rest of this home

One large-scale photograph. This striking landscape dominates the wall; the sky, clouds, and top of the tree make a strong impact on the color scheme and mood of the room.

Another sitting area adjacent to the fireplace echoes the same colors of the previous photo. Cunningham and Foster stuck with a earthy palette of browns, turquoises, and reds throughout the house. By using the same tones in each room, they were able to tie the entire house together. Sofa: Mitchell Gold Dr. Pitt sofa Red side table: Bungalow 5 Photo over the sofa: Markham Roberts, from James Sansum Fine Arts.

Another thought...find a photo you've taken during your travels (something hi-res) that gives you good memories and makes you feel relaxed and have it blown up big to be the focal point, above the sofa whatever wall is prime. You can get something as this for under $200. Or you can have it broken into a diptych or triptych for more presence.

One large pieces of art over the sofa will look great.
