    Benjamin Moore Grant beige

I love the color--"Abalone" by Benjamin Moore. I recently painted a small area in my master bath and also gave the room a slight hue of violet. The room does have a small window, and so depending on the time of day the color does appear to change. In an effort to rule out it wasn't just my eyes playing tricks on me, I proceeded to test my eyes by taking a small sample of dry paint outside. And, what do you know??? The color is truly a beautiful beige. So, kiddos to BM; the color couldn't be anymore reflective a real abalone shells in nature. After all, abalone shells do give an iridescent hue. So, this might explain the lavender hue we see.

    Good luck!

Love abalone. I wasn't crazy about it on the swatch, but on the wall it really comes to life and is very interesting. It has a faint undertone of purple, but I can't say it looks purple at all. The room only gets indirect light. I will be trying it in a brighter room next.

Is this Abalone in flat or eggshell finish?
  • jcombs885
I have BM Abalone also, because I LOVED this room, it was my inspirateion! Really this whole house you did Cardea, is gorgeous! We have eggshell finish and it definitely changes color depending on the light and can look to have some violet. I love it though, it makes it intersting in my opinion :-)

I love the painting above the fireplace. I love the unframed canvas and I did something similar above my couch but was told that my furniture is too traditional and I should have something framed. I see here that your painting is not framed and I would love your opinion. Thanks

@ Katie Thomas...I would be interested in speaking with you about the artwork you said you can replicate.

I am about to point my living room this color. What is the color for the baseboards and crown molding?

Abalone in person doesn't look like this room. I bought a sample and painted a large swatch on a wall and a white board. It looks darker than this even in really good sunlight.
  • Lee Smith
anytime you compare a color to white the color looks darker. I chose a pale gray for a room. Beside the white trim i was certain it was way too dark but after all walls were painted and the ceiling it seemed so much lighter. It got even "lighter" when I painted the doors black. It's all relative to what color you're comparing it too. Also there is such a thing as reflective color, or reflective light. Think buttercup under the chin. It reflects on your skin your skin appears "yellow".

This area rug is from the home owners' collection, so unfortunately we don't know where this was purchased. A good place to look for inspiration is nomadrugs.com.

    Good Luck,

Love the overall look. Like the artwork and the blue accent color. Like the area rug. Just needs some bookshelves.
