This living room surprises and delights like a special effects machine. Jannat Vasi opted for bold
dramatic modernity instead of going down the conventional route of furniture, surfaces and classic
materials. Jannat Vasi’s vision was to create an identity defining impact when you enter the home which
sets the tone for the rest of the spaces.
The artistic brushstrokes of the Pierre Frey fabric on this sofa is dramatically uplifted against the embossed rug and bronze metal furniture from Scarlet Splendour. The polished CMC marble floor and white veneer walls from Tabu balance the strong identity of the colourful areas.
The simplicity of the white allows for the richness of colour to emerge and holds everything in a cohesive legibility. Additionally, the delicate qualities of furniture details and lighting stand out.
The red Gufram Rosso Cactus of the living room works together with the drenched blue wall, whilst the plain walls here allow the David Kracov artwork and other pieces to breathe.
To enhance visual relationships, the custom juxtaposed bookshelf with a projected cantilever dining table is an interesting feature. This piece showcases the designer’s love for designing in three dimensionality.

This complete room design was featured in Annapolis Home Magazine Design Talk. The varying lines of the vaulted ceiling, the lower soffet and windows created a challenge of designing a room that feels balanced. We began by creating a strong architectural line around the room starting with new built-ins flanking the fireplace and continued with the decorative drapery rod of the custom window treatments.
The woven wood roman shades and drapery panels were designed and installed to give the illusion of larger and taller windows. A room refresh included updating the wall color to an on trend millennial pink, a neutral gray tweed sofa, a subtle but fun pattern for their accent chairs, and a beautiful wool and silk rug to anchor the seating area. New lamps, coffee table, and accent tables with metallic, glass, and marble connect beautifully with the fireplace’s new stone surround.

The master bedroom has a private door to a portion of the deck that can be screened. Wall colors are deep, strong and beautiful.

Though DIY living room makeovers and bedroom redecorating can be an exciting undertaking, these projects often wind up uncompleted and with less than satisfactory results. This was the case with our client, a young professional in his early 30’s who purchased his first apartment and tried to decorate it himself. Short on interior décor ideas and unhappy with the results, he decided to hire an interior designer, turning to Décor Aid to transform his one-bedroom into a classy, adult space. Our client already had invested in several key pieces of furniture, so our Junior Designer worked closely with him to incorporate the existing furnishings into the new design and give them new life.
Though the living room boasted high ceilings, the space was narrow, so they ditched the client’s sectional in place of a sleek leather sofa with a smaller footprint. They replaced the dark gray living room paint and drab brown bedroom paint with a white wall paint color to make the apartment feel larger. Our designer introduced chrome accents, in the form of a Deco bar cart, a modern chandelier, and a campaign-style nightstand, to create a sleek, contemporary design. Leather furniture was used in both the bedroom and living room to add a masculine feel to the home refresh.

A mix of industrial and natural elements make up this very unique den. The color palette, textures, and forms all work together to create a luxurious yet inviting space. Custom pieces such as the metal tree artwork, glass leaf floor lamp, and detailed throw pillows, add character to this otherwise almost ordinary space. The windows are framed with heavy metal draperies layer behind silver sheers.
In the bathroom, the industrial theme continues with an abundance of silver. Silver-leafed wall covering layers over dark paint on the walls. A custom vanity and paired mirror add to the uniqueness of this space.

The design for this lovely Somerset home blends both classic and contemporary themes. The entrance hall is a welcoming space and is softened by the John Cullen Lighting system, which creates a soft glow of ambient light. The drawing room walls are rendered with ebony and ivory polished plaster, and teamed with wool and cashmere soft furnishings, creating a strong graphic design style.
Dramatic floor uplighters highlight the Philippe Starck mirror, and the Barbara Barry cross-back dining chairs, create an intimate and glamorous dining room.

Lacking a proper entry wasn't an issue in this small living space, with the makeshift coat rack for hats scarves and bags, and a tray filled with small river stones for shoes and boots. Wainscoting along the same wall to bring some subtle contrast and a catchall cabinet to hold keys and outgoing mail.

The lounge area is cosy yet sophisticated, centred around a large statement wall clock. Sofas are upholstered in a shimmering pale grey fabric with crisp blue piping, and dotted with soft velvet cushions in teal and royal blue. Elements of zingy brights, such as the yellow metal tray tables, cushion piping and throws, bring freshness and modernity, as do the flashes of high-shine metal on the radiators.

This home remodel is a celebration of curves and light. Starting from humble beginnings as a basic builder ranch style house, the design challenge was maximizing natural light throughout and providing the unique contemporary style the client’s craved.
The Entry offers a spectacular first impression and sets the tone with a large skylight and an illuminated curved wall covered in a wavy pattern Porcelanosa tile.
The chic entertaining kitchen was designed to celebrate a public lifestyle and plenty of entertaining. Celebrating height with a robust amount of interior architectural details, this dynamic kitchen still gives one that cozy feeling of home sweet home. The large “L” shaped island accommodates 7 for seating. Large pendants over the kitchen table and sink provide additional task lighting and whimsy. The Dekton “puzzle” countertop connection was designed to aid the transition between the two color countertops and is one of the homeowner’s favorite details. The built-in bistro table provides additional seating and flows easily into the Living Room.
A curved wall in the Living Room showcases a contemporary linear fireplace and tv which is tucked away in a niche. Placing the fireplace and furniture arrangement at an angle allowed for more natural walkway areas that communicated with the exterior doors and the kitchen working areas.
The dining room’s open plan is perfect for small groups and expands easily for larger events. Raising the ceiling created visual interest and bringing the pop of teal from the Kitchen cabinets ties the space together. A built-in buffet provides ample storage and display.
The Sitting Room (also called the Piano room for its previous life as such) is adjacent to the Kitchen and allows for easy conversation between chef and guests. It captures the homeowner’s chic sense of style and joie de vivre.

We designed the over sized wall storage on the left, to emphasise the double height ceiling to this space. On the opposite side of the room is a wall of framed art prints. The walls and storage are painted in Strong White from Farrow & Ball, giving a simple backdrop to the gorgeous seating, the coral lamp and the wall art. And of course, who can ignore the stunning celing pendant lights from Foscarini. The Spokes lights come in 3 shapes, as seen here in the black colour. The extra long cable allows them to be fitted to the double height ceiling and sit happily above the lounge, beautiful! #farrowandball #farrow&ball #grahamandgreen #graham&green #turquoise sofa #strongwhite #loungedesign #customstorage #bespokestorage #custombuiltin #foscarinilighting

The perfect winter getaway for these Pacific Northwest clients of mine. I wanted to design a space that promoted relaxation (and sunbathing!), so my team and I adorned the home almost entirely in warm neutrals. To match the distinct artwork, we made sure to add in powerful pops of black, brass, and a tad of sparkle, offering strong touches of modern flair.
Designed by Michelle Yorke Interiors who also serves Seattle, Washington and it's surrounding East-Side suburbs from Mercer Island all the way through Issaquah.
