Hi! could you tell me the name of the small tree to the right of the picture. Cheers

Hi Jo - That is Catalpa bignonioides 'Aurea'. It can eventually grow to a decent sized tree (20'x30'). Sometimes people will coppice it and maintain it as a large shrub if they are tight on space and want the bold foliage, but I prefer to let it be what it wants to be (a tree).

Hi there - Thanks for the kinds words about the garden! This is Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola' - or Japanese forest grass. A great plant for damp and shady or part shade locations. It likes rich soil.

Hi Judy - In addition to the Hakonechloa (forest grass), the foreground planting includes Polystichum makinoi, Astrantia major 'Alba', Rodgersia pinnata and Polygonatum.

What type of polygonatum is planted?

Good question, I don't remember. Its not the variegated one, that I know. I do not use this plant very much here because the slugs adore it which is too bad because it is nice in a shade position (which the slugs also like).

For the clumps of Hakenchloa grass, is it one plant or multiple?

Hi - in the foreground, it's one and in the background it's multiple.
