Marinwood KitchenTraditional Kitchen, San Francisco

Andrew McKinney Photography

Not every kitchen on houzz is enormous! Here's a 10' x 10' kitchen.

It seems that painted white kitchens never go out of favor. While the cabinets, faucets and hardware lean toward a more traditional look, that look is tempered by the modern lines of grey glass tile and the chimney hood.
And instead of carrara marble counter tops, the client opted for quartz for a similar look (Cambria's "Torquay").

Inspiration for a timeless u-shaped enclosed kitchen remodel in San Francisco with an undermount sink, recessed-panel cabinets, white cabinets, gray backsplash, stainless steel appliances and quartz countertops —  Houzz

Hi vkurian, the tile is by Island Stone and it’s called Boulevard. The color is smoke. Island stone is available at many tile showrooms.

    Hi Carol,
The grout is grey--as close to the color of tile as possible. I like the tile to be the focal point, not the grout.

Hi reddyvenu, glad you found the tile! Island stone also makes great stone tiles that I often specify for fireplaces.

What color grout did you use, light grey?
  • PRO
    Barbra Bright Design
Hi db11, the grout was a dark grey--as close to the color of the tile as I could get. I like the tile to pop, not the grout.

Actually I did not notice at first that this was an electric... I was looking at the all gas. Right now I am between the KA all gas slide in and the Thermador. Do you have any feed back or comments on either? Thanks again...

Hi Babra! Could you tell me where you sourced the under cabinet power outlets? Do they include lighting?

  • PRO
    Barbra Bright Design

Hi Nader, My apologies for missing your question! The power strips in the photo were Task Lighting Angle power strips. You might also consider Adorne by Legrand. And neither include lighting.

Good morning ddgrl13, Honestly, it's hard to say without seeing the actual layout. Here's a good rule--try to make your cabinets a minimum of 15" wide--18's are my favorite. That correlates to 30" & 36" wide cabinets if they have two doors.

Try to stay away from 12" (24") cabinets when possible--tiny doors, make a busy kitchen. That said, kitchens are not perfect sizes and compromises are always made. Good luck!

  • ddgrl13
    Hi Barbra!
You have helped me so much, I keep coming back !

Are the easy reach cabinets 12" on each side? Are those narrow pullouts @ stove used as fillers only or do they aid in the easy reach usage? I have gotten very conflicting advice with these corner sections .
Are the upper 18" wide and finally, does one butt the cabinet up to window frame edge ( with or without moulding) or leave- how much space ?
    Thank you so much!

Hi Elba, the faucet placement depends on the size on your sink. Generally, I like 3" of countertop in front of the sink and then I work backwards and center the faucet in the area that's left. Hope that makes sense!

  • Elba Del Castillo Jimenez

Yes, I does make sense. Thank you very much for your help.

Wow, thanks for a quick and complete answer... Would you be able to estimate how much it would cost for that style kitchen, roughly, 10x10 for just the cabinets, counters, sink and glass tiles? My appliances are brand new and I would update my flooring at a later date. Thanks again!

    Barbra Bright Design
Mmm. The cabinets were about $17,000. Tile $1,100. Counter $4,000. Fireclay sink $850. Rohl faucet $900. Cabinet hardware $350

Hi Romai, there are 18" between the countertop and light valance.

  • romai

Thanks, but I actually meant the floor space between the two cabinets. I have a u-shaped kitchen and am renovating, and am wondering how much I can tighten that space without it being too much. On one side it's open to my living room so I have that option. This looks to be about 5 feet? And while I'm at it... what is the countertop and colour? Thanks!

Hi Nat, this is the oddest thing--I could have sworn I answered you question a week ago, I guess I didn't hit submit, lol. Anyway, it's been a while since I did this kitchen, so I don't remember the wall color.

Revere Pewter would work well, since it is a nice greige. I actually think is has a blue, not green undertone.

White dove is a softer white and I specify this color often If you want a brighter white consider Decorator White. Thanks again for the kind words.

Hello shahai6, it's a medium grey paint color by Benjamin Moore called Shale 861 (it's my best guess since it's been awhile). Paint an 18" x 18" square and see if it works in your room (based on your lighting).

If you are looking for a lighter grey try: classic grey, gray owl, or balboa mist--yup, I used them all!

Hi KLDR, the tile in the photo came in a 12 x 12 sheet, so the grout joint was predetermined. With glass tile, I say the smaller the better--go for 1/16th.

Thank you, I'm so glad you like this kitchen! The hood is by Zephyr and it's the Savona series. It vents directly through the roof above since this is a single story dwelling.

Mmm, seems like you would need shorten the height of cabinets and create a soffit above them to duct the hood to the outside wall.

Hi curlysue, I designed this kitchen last year and have stayed in touch with the homeowner. She still loves her quartz countertop. The best way to clean it with soap and water, but Soft Scrub works well if it needs more attention.
