Hi. I think unless you used a specialist paint that can take a lot of water it will warp and flake off. These little racks are cute but I'm not sure how practical they are so close to the floor. I live in an old house in Scotland which has a pulley (drying rack) suspended from the ceiling which can be lowered by hand and tied it place. It used to be the main means of drying stuff back in the day before dryers etc.. I use it occasionally for the odd thing that has to drip dry (when it's too wet to go outside). Normally I wouldn't use it as I don't want to smell like last night's dinner! It looks cute though, in character with the era of the house. A room length one hanging from a laundry room ceiling would be great though. Ours is wooden and varnished not painted though.

Instead of using wooden dowels how about plastic piping.

In my homes with washer/dryers I find it best to install a base with a set of wheels, this not only allows for easier installation, but helps when it comes to keeping the dust and airborn lint from accumulating on the top of the washer.

If you install on wheels, isn't it an issue getting the washer "level"? Do you have breaks on the wheels so the washer doesn't move during a spin?

I was wondering the same thing. Obviously, different monitors will show a slight difference in colors, but I see the walls gray on this photo.

Hang it up. A freestanding drying rack takes up valuable floor space, while one suspended from the ceiling involves ropes, pulleys and perhaps too much fiddling about for many of us. This is a perfect solution — drying rails that fold down from the wall and can be stored flush against it when not in use.

Do a hanging bar like this on either side of the center cabinet?
