3. Mixing dark and light colors was one trend that our readers couldn't get enough of this year. The walls in this bedroom are pretty dark, but the white and yellow accents keep it from becoming dreary. The large windows and furniture placement keep the room open and bright, while metallic table lamps and a starburst mirror add glamour.
Let's say you've completed a room, and everything is just the way you wanted it. It's brand new, sparkling and shiny, but seems to be missing a little something. Take this room, for example: beautiful design, luxurious materials and proper use of space. Now take out the trays on the nightstands, the blanket and the pillows. The scheme would turn sterile — those yellow pieces make the room.
Charcoal gray. Deep charcoal grays are more subdued. Also called smoky gray, this color is very calming which makes it a great choice for a bedroom. The deepest grays exude a feeling of elegance, and they create a striking contrast when paired with white or vivid colors. Tip: Bright yellows are commonly used with charcoal gray, but try experimenting with other unexpected hues such as lime green, cranberry red or burnt orange. Tip 1: Start with a neutral base. Ivory, gray, brown and navy are subtle and non-gender-specific. Charcoal gray walls and drapery in the same color grounds the space and centers your eyes on the focal point: a contemporary, leather-tufted upholstered bed that both parties can agree on.
Tara, Sookie's BFF, has been through a lot. Even though she made some kind of crazy nest with a big egg in it in Sookie's bed when she was possessed during Season 2, Sookie is a very loyal friend. She will always have a nice soothing guest room for Tara to stay in for however long she wants to.
One last room that falls somewhere in between moody and calm, this bedroom uses contrast to the highest advantage. By alternating dark and light colors, nothing seems to get sucked in or disappear, which is important when designing dark spaces, especially if they are low on natural light (which this room is not). Notice how the contrasting colors are used in a way that keeps everything crisp and clean.
