The arbour dimensions are approximately 12 feet wide by 4 feet deep. From ground level to the underside of the arbour rafters is approximately 7.5 feet. From inside both posts, the distance can be 10 feet wide when using 2 inch by 8 inch support joists. Cost will vary based on time of year and region because of constantly changing lumber prices. The lumber used for this project is Western Red Cedar. Thanks for your interest, and we'll be happy to answer any other questions you may have!

The attached image is a detailed drawing of the pergola plan. Please note that this drawing is conceptual only. You will need to review local building codes regarding building specs and permits. The recommended material is select grade western red cedar. Hope this helps!

Is it problematic to have arbor over the cooking area?

If it is a wood or vinyl pergola, there may be issues with heat distortion. With our fiberglass pergolas, heat distortion from grills or heaters isn't a factor!

This is good topic. I am wondering if anyone has a cedar pergola over their cooking area and how it has held up to the heat. I wanting a pergola to grow some wisteria on but maybe this design isn't well enough for my application? Any input would be great!

All of the higher quality grills can be left out. The side burner has a cover over the burner to keep water out.
