I've always been of the opinion that the door to a bathroom or powder room shouldn't be visible from any entry into the house. It's just never the view one wants from an exterior doorway. Sometimes it's a tough nut to crack but just keep noodling some sketches until you do.

You didn't say what room would be the alternate for the bathroom door to open into. I the back entry is just the best place for the bathroom, be sure to put bomber hinges (spring hinge) on the door so it automatically pulls itself together. That way you and others won't see inside the bathroom if someone doesn't think to close the door.

This was a pretty bright white, but unfortunately I don't have the specific color.

        Hi Allison,

This was a fir door, six panel. I'm afraid I don't have the brand, but Lemieux would have the same door.

Thanks, glad you like it. The tall window is at the staircase. There's a photo from the rear called "New family room, kitchen, and renovations to existing house", and other photos in "Lincoln kitchen/family room addition". The house was also featured in a piece on Houzz by Mary Prince.

What type of stone was used on the exterior stairs?

      - I am concerned about safety and issues with ice

        Hi Mary,

The steps are granite - beautiful, but it can ice up, as do most exterior surface materials. Keeping granite clear of snow and adding ice-melt or salt to keep the ice at bay is useful for this, or for bluestone, wood, or whatever your steps are made of. Neither ice-melt nor salt will damage the stone.
