Natural Stone Garden

Mediterranean Patio, Los Angeles

The fire pit is the focal point of this outdoor seating area. It creates an intimate place to gather in the cool California evenings. The circular shape of the stone bench continues into the flower beds and encircles the fire pit creating a cozy area surrounded by the fragrance of the plants and herbs.

Hi there! I LOVE your designs ~ especially the Waterwise Mediterranean. I'm from a very dry part of Canada with hot summers ~ there is a ban on all fire pits and outdoor fire places... really anything that might throw off sparks. The above fire pit looks as though it is gas perhaps?? Could you tell me what kind of fire bowl this is and what I should look for to comply with the laws here?

Thank you for your kind words. The bowl for a fire pit has to be fire rated - meaning that it can withstand the heat of a fire. Likewise when building a fire pit you need to use fire bricks on the inside. This fire pit is plumbed for gas so you have quite a bit of control over the size of the fire and there aren't really any sparks to deal with. A sharp wind can blow the fire around though. There are premade fire pits that have tempered glass "shields" around them. These are often used as combination coffee table/fire pit and have smaller fire rings. Perhaps this would work in your situation?
