That marble looks like Statuario marble. It could also be Calacatta. Both are very expensive in comparison with other marbles and granites. Marble is a calcium carbonate based stone. It is easily scratched and stained in kitchen use. This should be known. It will develope a patina of marks and stains over time. Some people like that and others do not.

Terrazzo floors. Seemingly indestructable, terrazzo gets an A+ for durability, and also for its good looks. This material, made of chips of marble or granite set in concrete and polished, can score high for sustainability too if no- or low-VOC sealers and low-impact aggregates (like recycled glass) are used. Terrazzo's one shortcoming is that it can be tough to stand on for long periods of time.More:When to Use Engineered Wood FloorsCork Flooring 101: Warm Up to a Natural WonderWood Floor Care: Polish Your SkillsContractor Tips: Smooth Moves for Hardwood Floors
