What is the height of the fireplace mantel shelf from the floor?
  • srikarsastry

I've been struggling to get ideas for a modern fireplace. I don't have to look anymore. That's exactly how want my fireplace to look, and it would go really well with my hardwood flooring.
Are closeup pics of he fireplace available, so that I can get a better idea of the edge profiles and overall design?

Thank you. It is Marble slab.

Would like to add that we just painted our entire main living area (foyer, kitchen, dining room, hallway to bedrooms, and family room) Bar Harbor Beige. We love it! If you have existing furniture or cabinets or whatever in both warm and cool tones, Bar Harbor Beige might be for you. Bright colors pop off it in the best way!

Fireplace providers can help you make sure the unit you need will fix the opening you have if you aren't planning on a total overhaul. From there a designer can help coordinate the surround and details!

Do you put the lights towards the front or the back of the shelf?
  • pneckowitz
Can you elaborate on the lighting- how deep are the channels and are they strips or individual LED lights along the channel to make a long strip (like in the under cabinet halogen lights in kitchens)- also where is the channel (how far from the front of the shelf/), Thanks

It was ordered from an Austin furniture store called Loft. Their website is lofthome.com and I think the safest bet would be for you to contact them to ask the manufacturer, because I don't have it in my records. Tell them it was a shag rug purchased by me in the last year (color was "pewter" and they hopefully should be able to help :-)

The homeowner purchased this and I don't recall where, but they sell a similar table at Design Within Reach and West Elm.

  • Minal Shah

Love the Coffee table, can you tell me where did you buy it from

The cabinets are rift cut oak and the mantel was made to match. The top is 2" thick. Thanks!

    what material surrounds the fireplace?

Thank you - the wall is 26" deep, the base cabinet is 24", and the soffit is 18" deep. Hope that helps! The angle of the photo is a little deceiving :-/

  • Cyn Con

Thank you Laura. Very helpful. Can you tell me how wide the angled was is? It might not be that crucial since we have selected the gas FP for our room (glass enclosure = 33" wide), but knowing the answer would be good just for scale. Love the room. My husband was against a corner FP until he saw your work that so I think you saved a marriage (or at least avoided another spat). :)

Thank you - the fireplace surround is a solid slab of marble and so is the hearth, which is indeed angled...

Hello! Yes it was an older gas fireplace that we "revamped" and added pretty glass fill instead of the old spongy rock :-) The fire box was original to the house and I don't know the manufacturer. Hope that helps!

This is an original oil painting found in an Austin art gallery. I will try to find the artist's name from the homeowner and get back to you...

Yes they are 24" deep. I know they don't look it in the picture, but I double checked the cabinet drawings. I think it's an optical illusion that they are shallower :-)

The fireplace surface is a marble slab (unfortunately I don't recall the name of the marble!) and the mantle was made of the same ebony stained oak as the floating shelves...

The surface of this fireplace is a solid slab of marble. I'm sorry I don't recall the exact name of the marble, but we found it at a stone yard.

Thank you! It was an existing sectional of the client's, so I don't have all of the specifics on it, but it's a taupe color

Hi, The entire built-in wall is 13' 2.5" wide. The wall shelves are 3' 4" wide on each side w/ 55" flat screen TV. The fireplace is 7' wide .

Bonus: a second look at separate. Sometimes the best way to deal with these two focal points is to separate them. This design makes great use of an angled wall while still making it easy to enjoy the fireplace and the TV at the same time. Design tip: Connect your fireplace mantel visually to the main shelving. In a design like the one shown here, you also could carry over all three shelves to create a triple mantel.
