What are your thoughts on the Benson vs. the Harmon pendants for 8ft ceilings? I like the Benson, but I'm afraid the shade/casing part will look huge with a stubby little rod! Do you think that will be the case? I will most likely need the 13" Thanks!

We love the elongated shape of the Benson light fixture but you are right. In an 8’ ceiling we would recommend the Harmon pendant.

Pendant size for 103x52 island? - My island will be 103"x52" with 8' ceilings and 2 pendants. Was thinking of 2 Benson 7", but perhaps I should go with 13". Other option would be Harmon. If so, which size? Thanks for your input!

Elizabeth, from the bottom of the fixture to the bottom of the rod is 19". I have the 6" rod, then the ceiling cap is another 4.5" for a total of 29.5". The bottom of my lights are 30" above the countertop. Floor to countertop is 36". Hope this helps!

Can I use three pendants? - I want to use the benson pendants, 13" diameter. My table is 6 feet by 43 inches and is very substantial. Would three lights be too many. The talbe extends to 8 feet but I don't want to extend it all the time. I already have one hole in ceiling directly in center. If three is too many, how would it look if I use two and put a recessed light in the existing hole. My heart is set on these pendants. I would appreciate any input. Thank you so much.

We like the juxtaposition of the sleek industrial feel of these lights and something that is softer. In this particular home, we used a wood and iron chandelier from Aidan Gray over the breakfast table. Good luck!

Linda, any chance you can tell me the name of the exact chandelier you used?

Linda, what would you suggest for a square Island that is 51" x 51"? We were thinking of using 2 Benson pendants, but we are unsure whether we should buy the 7" or the 13" pendants. We need your help!

We are trying to figure this out as well. We love the Benson Pendants but only have 8' ceilings and don't want them seem overwhelming. Our island is 10ft. Any suggestions on number of pendants and size?

Lighting - My island will be 12'x5'....do you think I would be better off with three 16" pendants or four 7" pendants? Also, there is a breakfast nook just on the other side of the island--would you recommend a similar light fixture or something entirely different over the kitchen table? Thanks for your help--your work is breathtaking and I wish I lived closer!!

We are putting in an island that is just under 8' x 4' with sloped ceilings that will be around 9' above island. Would you recommend the Benson or Harmon? How do I know what size to go with? Would two 13" be enough? Would you suggest matching the sink and faucet to the lights? We will have a vibrant stainless faucet and a stainless steel sink with no finish. White cloud quartz counter and white cupboards. Our backslash has the brushed stainless amongst grey/black horizontal rectangle glass. Thanks in advance.

13" would probably work just fine. You can get away with two, we would just advise that you make sure there's not more than 3 feet between them. Three would really be better. If only doing 2, we would advise you go with the 15" Harmon.

While I don't recognize these particular pendants, I can certainly offer advice on pendant light sizing and spacing for you!

Since your island is 4 feet wide, or 48 inches, subtract 12 inches from that number. That's 36, which is a good guideline for the maximum width or diameter of a pendant light to go over the island.

Space pendants 2 feet apart over an island, so since yours is 6 feet long, you could go for either 2 or 3 pendants.

For hanging height, start with 28 to 34 inches above the island as a jumping-off point.

(These guidelines come from our guide to light sizing.)

Let me know if you have any questions!

I think i found these lights, they're from a Restoration hardware collection! According to your guideline abover i can go with 2 to 3 36 inch lights above the island? Those seem like really large lights to me. I think we're leaning towards using 2 lights above the island and the diameter options for these particular lights are 11'', 15'' and 19''. Which size would you go with if you used 2 lights?

It is a 2cm Carrera marble. The thickness of the countertop is usually based on the material. Marbles and limestones are usually 2cm and granites are 3cm. Using a 2cm in the kitchen is fine but just be aware that marbles and limestones are softer stones so they have to be treated a little more delicately than granite. You can’t sit anything hot directly on them and they stain and scratch easier.
