5. A Sitting AreaAnother common trend is to provide a sitting room within the master bedroom. Designs can even feel like a small living room, as in this house. These spaces can be very quiet places where you can get away and spend time writing, reading or just contemplating. If a sitting area is on your wish list, allow at least an extra 150 square feet of space to accommodate furnishings.
In a more traditional or transitional space, the Lumière announces "This room has been updated," and eradicates any stale or stuffy feeling.More:Remake a Space With a Sculptural ChandelierSensational Chandeliers Cast Rooms in Dramatic Light
It's important to consider scale when choosing a secretary. In order to check proportions, tape off the measurements on the floor and wall with painter's tape. This desk is a good example of a desk standing up to the size of the room.
While I love our current master bedroom, if I were to put one on my wish list this would be it. Expansive, with stunningly detailed windows, a beautiful fireplace anchoring a large seating area and a striking bronze light fixture—this bedroom is gorgeous.
What an interesting mix of styles and pieces in this bedroom, which not only includes a seating area, but one that faces a fireplace flanked by gorgeously detailed windows. The bronze toned grasscloth is perfect with the brass light fixture, while small accents of orange enliven the design.
