AFTER: Architect Ryan Duebber created a much more relaxing area with a free-standing tub atop a Brazilian massaranduba wood platform that lets the homeowners catch the view out the window while they soak. A new TV setup is much safer, and river rocks at the edge between the platform and the limestone floor add unexpected texture.See the rest of this bathroom makeover
AFTER: Duebber took the room down to the studs and started with a clean slate, careful to add only pieces that enhanced the minimalist space and created serenity. Materials like Brazilian massaranduba wood, stones and natural-cut limestone tile add organic warmth.
AFTER: A new color palette, simple materials, clean lines (and a much-improved television setup) gave the homeowners the spa feel they were going for. More about this remodel: From Dated Southwestern to Serene Minimalism
The existing vaulted ceiling and large window make the room feel spacious, which Duebber enhanced with a minimalist approach and a thoughtful layout. He made the most of the big view by placing the freestanding bathtub in front of the window. The bathtub sits on a platform made of Brazilian massaranduba wood. "The platform elevates the tub so that they can enjoy the view, and creates a moment of contrast between the wood and stone," Duebber says. Massaranduba is used for outdoor decking and can stand up to water splashing over the sides.
