This is a beautiful bathroom! Please tell me what color white did you use on the paneling. It is so soft and warm.

@sweetcip: What type of clear coat did you use on your cabinet?
  • fairhavenfarm2
I made a master vanity from a split old barnwood trestle table with Waterworks vessel sinks. We used many coats of marine varnish to protect the top from moisture. Works great. I re-coated this year (5 years after we made the table).

All my favorite photos seem to come from Garrison & company's portfolio! :)

And again this is a photo of a wall covered in wallpaper. I would warn against anyone painting wallpaper as suggested in the posts to obtain these colors, unless you have taken this on before.

Totally agree! Wallpaper is wallpaper and should be handled by a professional, especially Grasscloth. There is no way that the depth in the above picture could be achieved by paint alone. Grasscloth is wonderful for not only giving great colour but also great depth. So no matter what paint colour would be chosen instead of grasscloth, it could never have the depth or 'feel" that this gorgeous wallpaper does. Such a great bold colour to have in this room. Note: I was never suggesting to paint grasscloth (never would). Just if someone wanted a "similar" colour as the wallcovering since grasscloth can be outside of some peoples snackbrackets. Painting any wallcovering except anaglypta or lincrusta gets my blood pressure up :). I know people do it all the time! And shouldn't! UGH!! Sorry for any confusion!
Just a little note: I am a huge fan of your work; your use of colour, line and detail. Can't wait to see what you do next.

I love the vanity! Has gold foil been used or is that a basecoat with a distressing or a crackle technique in the BM paint? Thanks!

The client did some last minute online shopping, I don't know the cost but I'm sure it was very inexpensive (under $100)

I got mine it looks exactly like this one at Menards, right about $100.

This is a small powder room in a home that has several bathrooms, so this bathroom will get little use...it has a simple varnish over the top.

Your decision will also depend on the choice of wall color or tile behind/around the cabinets...I would say go with the choice that gives you more contrast. Attach a pic of you need to help describe the space.

We bought the chest new at a furniture store and then worked with our carpenter and plumber to prepare it for the vessel sink and faucet.

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Janell Beals - House of Fifty added this to Upcycle Furniture Finds With PaintNov 30, 2015

The design team at Garrison Hullinger came across just the right-sized dresser at a discount furniture store to use in a small powder room project. After painting it with a distressed finish and covering it with a sealer to protect the surface from splashes, the designers retrofitted it to accommodate a sink and faucet, then slipped it perfectly into place.

Susan Mathison added this to Vintage Vanities Bring Bygone Style to BathsApr 4, 2014

This vintage dresser was painted and distressed in a deep green finish. Although most wood surfaces must have water protection applied, this top was simply varnished. (This bath is rarely used, so the designer wasn’t worried about water damage.) The tall arc faucet clears the porcelain vessel bowl, which resembles an old washbasin.More: Get It Done: Organize the Bathroom for Well-Earned Bliss

Jen L'Italien added this to 6 Great New Uses for a Vintage DresserNov 14, 2011

I love the mix of styles you see with this sink vanity. A low vintage dresser is paired with a vessel sink and modern faucet. The result is one eye-catching piece for the bathroom.

This is beautiful. I like that the vanity is a piece of furniture. Again, not sure about the sink.
