Personally, I like the mesh baskets that hold shovels and balls in this photo. If you have garage shelving, you can place toys in clear plastic storage containers so they are easily visible. If you do not have a garage, a hall closet or spare bedroom closet will also work. As with camping gear, the key is to keep everything together so you can get out of the house quickly.Beach gear storage tip:The most important thing to remember with beach gear is to hose off the sand before you store it!Find plastic containers for storing beach or camping gear
Establish the Ground RulesThese may evolve, but talk a few things through in the beginning, and as with your schedule, adjust as you go. This is what Torey and I have agreed to:1. The helper hauls the junk away. A big project will be tiring for both of you, but when it's your house, the exhaustion is on a whole 'nother level, and dealing with a pile of trash bags or Goodwill boxes may be the final straw. And out of sight is out of mind. On our first workday, we sorted through the many boxes of Torey and David's books. David decided to go digital with everything except art books. We sorted box by box into "keep," "donate" and "sell" piles. I bagged everything up and loaded it all into my van. That evening David remembered an expensive philosophy book he wanted to hold on to, but that was it.
5. A slat wall. Retail stores often use these walls to keep things off the floor but within reach. Different hooks and shelves fit into the horizontal slats, making for a customized storage center with minimal effort. The right hook can hold anything from skis to toys to lawn chairs.
8. On-the-wall family storage. The best thing you can do to keep your garage organized is to get things off the floor. This garage makes use of a handy system that keeps everything from scooters to surfboards out of the way.
