Our clients in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Decatur, GA needed more space but wanted to stay in the neighborhood they love. They considered selling their small home and buying a larger one. Unfortunately in popular Oakhurst, any larger home was a new home designed by a builder and cost upward of $600K. Another option was to choose a local design-build firm. Many design-build companies can provide good service in renovating existing homes, but at quite a premium.
Instead our clients chose to hire Re:FORM Architects and pursue the architect/builder model for renovating their home and adding a new second story. As their architects, we were able to act as their advocates to guide them through the renovation process and design a second story addition that fit their needs without busting their budget. There is no conflict of of interest with the architect/builder model. Unlike with design-build firms where the designer is an employee of the company that will profit in construction, we have no incentive for you to overspend on your renovation. For example, if a design-build company can convince you to choose high-end kitchen counters & cabinets or bathroom tile they will make more profit. We make the same fee, regardless of whether you choose high-end or medium grade finishes.
The result: A lovely 4 bedroom, 3 bath home, with 520 SF of porches (one on the front and a large screened porch off the back) for $110 per square foot. and yes, that includes all of our architectural fees.
The Buckingham Group
The prime location of this home coupled with the fact that the Clients parents had owned the same provided the incentive to undertake a whole house remodel. A portion of the existing oversized utility room was incorporated into the kitchen space to provide the necessary footprint for the new kitchen. A beautiful hand picked granite slab provides the movement on the eating bar that draws ones eyes to the cooktop and the work surfaces beyond. The small eating peninsula satisfies the needs of these empty nesters while allowing them to look out through their new patio doors into their backyard and the creek that lies at its edge. Dark mahogany stained superior alder provides the traditional richness in cabinet appearance requested by the owner.

Barn Conversion, Accord, New York Conversion of a rural two story barn into a three bedroom two bath residence situated on three acres. The design incorporated existing farm elements, local stone and exposure of the original pegged beams and trusses. Additions included a gourmet kitchen, copper and metal roofing, eighteenth century wood doors from the Chateau D’If along with hand hewn timbers and extensive landscaping. The large deck affords views of the lower valley.

An addition enlarged the master suite while the kitchen, utility and powder rooms were reconfigured for an updated floor plan.
