This light filled laundry room is as functional as it is beautiful. It features a vented clothes drying cabinet, complete with a hanging rod for air drying clothes and pullout mesh racks for drying t-shirts or delicates. The handy dog shower makes it easier to keep Fido clean and the full height wall tile makes cleaning a breeze. Open shelves above the dog shower provide a handy spot for rolled up towels, dog shampoo and dog treats. A laundry soaking sink, a custom pullout cabinet for hanging mops, brooms and other cleaning supplies, and ample cabinet storage make this a dream laundry room. Design accents include a fun octagon wall tile and a whimsical gold basket light fixture.

The clients—a chef and a baker—desired a light-filled space with stylish function allowing them to cook, bake and entertain. Craig expanded the kitchen by removing a wall, vaulted the ceiling and enlarged the windows.

The 100-year old home’s kitchen was old and just didn’t function well. A peninsula in the middle of the main part of the kitchen blocked the path from the back door. This forced the homeowners to mostly use an odd, U-shaped corner of the kitchen.
Design objectives:
-Add an island
-Wow-factor design
-Incorporate arts and crafts with a touch of Mid-century modern style
-Allow for a better work triangle when cooking
-Create a seamless path coming into the home from the backdoor
-Make all the countertops in the space 36” high (the old kitchen had different base cabinet heights)
Design challenges to be solved:
-Island design
-Where to place the sink and dishwasher
-The family’s main entrance into the home is a back door located within the kitchen space. Samantha needed to find a way to make an unobstructed path through the kitchen to the outside
-A large eating area connected to the kitchen felt slightly misplaced – Samantha wanted to bring the kitchen and materials more into this area
-The client does not like appliance garages/cabinets to the counter. The more countertop space, the better!
Design solutions:
-Adding the right island made all the difference! Now the family has a couple of seats within the kitchen space. -Multiple walkways facilitate traffic flow.
-Multiple pantry cabinets (both shallow and deep) are placed throughout the space. A couple of pantry cabinets were even added to the back door wall and wrap around into the breakfast nook to give the kitchen a feel of extending into the adjoining eating area.
-Upper wall cabinets with clear glass offer extra lighting and the opportunity for the client to display her beautiful vases and plates. They add and an airy feel to the space.
-The kitchen had two large existing windows that were ideal for a sink placement. The window closest to the back door made the most sense due to the fact that the other window was in the corner. Now that the sink had a place, we needed to worry about the dishwasher. Samantha didn’t want the dishwasher to be in the way of people coming in the back door – it’s now in the island right across from the sink.
-The homeowners love Motawi Tile. Some fantastic pieces are placed within the backsplash throughout the kitchen. -Larger tiles with borders make for nice accent pieces over the rangetop and by the bar/beverage area.
-The adjacent area for eating is a gorgeous nook with massive windows. We added a built-in furniture-style banquette with additional lower storage cabinets in the same finish. It’s a great way to connect and blend the two areas into what now feels like one big space!

A life of inspired beauty featuring touches of elegance with a little old-fashioned detail combine to create the transitional spaces throughout this home. Creating a whole-home design centered around an open-plan kitchen and living space, the home features custom, handcrafted Wood-Mode cabinetry in the walk-in pantry, bar, master bath, and powder room.
For these New Jersey homeowners wanting touches of elegance with a little old-fashioned detail, Penterman Kitchen & Bath created bright and roomy transitional spaces throughout the home. Starting in the heart of the home, the kitchen, collaborating with Wood-Mode on a design centered on its Arlington Recessed doors handcrafted of maple wood and finished in Vintage Bright White. Capped with dark, natural walnut countertops and Belwith Keeler Trellis hardware in polished nickel, finish out the overarching cabinetry design, creating a bright, open kitchen and living space. Beautiful mullion cabinets are faced with mirrors allowing light to be reflected around the room and hide items that the homeowner does not want on display. Stainless steel Wolf-Sub Zero appliances, including a gas stove with herringbone marble backsplash and oil rubbed bronze water appliances including a pot filler, coordinate to ground the transitional design. An oversized island is capped with a beautiful grey marble top and houses a strategically placed apron front ceramic farmhouse sink, allowing the homeowners to watch TV and engage with family members in the living area while washing dishes.
The walk-in pantry continues the design, white cabinetry with striking walnut countertops, and an overabundance of under counter dry and refrigerated storage. Matching handcrafted walnut shelving becomes a featured architectural element as Hafele under shelf lighting and high gloss white tile create a bright, open space. Plenty of electrical outlets allow the homeowner to keep entertaining prep in the pantry, allowing for clean kitchen countertops.
A breakfast nook featuring a ring of windows is drawn into the room with the same walnut wood from the countertops utilized on the nooks built-in benches. The family dog even has a place at the table with a feeding area and cabinet above to hold dog food and supplies. To soften and melt into the adjacent room, the bar area features marble countertops with the coordinating herringbone marble backsplash. Glass front upper cabinets allow the homeowner to display treasured glassware while matching hardware pulls the specialized area into the overall space design.
