This client's house is located on a busy corner, so she wanted a 'different' fence. The fence is a zig-zag pattern in black. The stepping stones are are keep the angular design of the house. These are new plantings of salvia, agave, and various echeverias.

A plain rectangular-shaped back yard in Fairfax, CA was transformed by including curvaceous pathway of decomposed granite (DG) patios and garden beds. Jacky Surber This garden is only a year old! Thanks to quarterly applications of compost tea it is really thriving. Healthy soil makes for healthy plants and a lush look soon after planting. Bright orange kalanchoe 'Flap jacks' and aloe blossoms contrast with the subtle blues and greens from the surrounding foliage of dymondia ground cover and other succulents.

The traditional fountain and surroundings are embellished with a variety of drought tolerant grasses, flowering plants and succulents. The removal of the dense and overgrown shrubs provides more outdoor living space for dining and entertaining for the homeowners' enjoyment. And now with site-appropriate plants and no lawn there is less maintenance and a lower water bill. Full color Blue stone and small mexican pebbles replace the lawn and pathways resulting in an updated and contemporary transformation. This classic San Francisco backyard was transformed into an inviting and usable outdoor living space. A few steps down lead to a lounging area, featuring drought-friendly and maintenance-free artificial grass as well as a cozy, custom-built natural gas fire pit surrounded by a Redwood bench. Redwood fencing, low-voltage LED landscape lighting, drip irrigation, planting and a water feature completed the space.

A new driveway design featuring large concrete slabs and small black pebbles set in a permeable resin in between. The front areas of this landscape in Bel Marin Keys, Novato, were transformed from a tired, water thirsty-lawn into a contemporary setting with dramatic concrete pavers leading to the home's entrance. A variety of low-water plants for sun and part shade complete this project front yard transformation. Installed in February 2014. More plant updates early 2015.
